Our Lady of the Lake Mary Garden
Joyce T. Snodgrass Lago Vista, Texas 13 Feb 2001 There is a Mary Garden behind St. Mary's, Our Lady of the Lake Church, in Lago Vista, where I go, and I thought I should share this with you Reply, Mary's Gardens, 01 Mar 2001 Thank you for telling us of the Mary Garden behind St. Mary's, Our Lady of the Lake in Lago Vista, Texas. Would you be able to send us some photos and anything of special interest about the Garden? You may know that the water lily had the old name of "Our Lady of the Lake". 12 Jul 2001 I have finally located my photos of the garden at St. Mary's, Our lady of the Lake. They were taken on May 6 after our Parish Picnic so they were much nicer than they would have been in February. 25 Jul,2001 Here are the photos. The Shrine
Entrance Walk Sherry Rogers of St. Mary's, Our Lady of the Lake tells me the statue was given to St. Mary's from the old Seton Hospital on 26h and Reo Grande (no longer there) in 1986. It sat on a platform on the fifth floor on the outside of the hospital. The Marian Shrine was already there in 1986, but Father doesn't remember the year it was put in. Between masses last Sunday, I talked to Luciano, who takes care of the Mary Garden. He waters it every week, and more often if necessary. We could use some rain! The address of the church is 6100 Lohman Ford Road, in Lago Vista. Its seating capacity is being increased this year from 200 to approx. 520. Our current enrollment is 330 families, and we have been adding 35-40 new families per year the last 3 years - young families with children. I'm on my way to Ohio to see the family, where I go for my birthday each year, so I will probably be out of Texas when you get this. I don't know if I will be able to use a computer much there, but I look forward in time to seeing all the photos and articles on your website. Are you familiar with a church in Euclid, Ohio, that celebrates mass in it's Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto, and also has a lovely Stations of the Cross walk in the woods? I don't recall its name as I write, but it is between Chardon Road (Route 6) and Euclid Avenue (Route 20). Reply, Mary's Gardens, 30 Oct 2001 Apologies for the long delay in thanking you for the photos and information about St. Mary's, Our Lady of the Lake Church and its Mary Garden Shrine - now finally posted to our website Chat and Photos section. The shrine and planting look lovely, and we hope some of the young families with children in the parish will become interested in the devotional Flowers of Our Lady, as described in the website article, In Mary's Garden.
